Light competition for schools

IYL2015 New Zealand is holding a competition for schools around New Zealand! The theme of the competition is “the role light plays in bettering our lives”.

Primary Competition – Stories in the dark

be creative with their story telling and story telling methods. Older students are encouraged to research into traditional story telling methods and traditional narratives of New Zealand and around the world.

Intermediate Competition – Hi-Vis 4 Bright Kiwi Kidz

examine how high visibility garments work. The judges for this category will be looking for creative designs as well as innovative ways of improving visibility based on a solid understanding of the science of hi-vis vests.

HighSchool Competition – Lighting the future

research contemporary light and photonics applications, and use that as a basis for a creative photo submission. The senior level will be divided into a year 9 and 10 group and a years 11-13 group and will be judged separately.

 

There will be individual prizes as well as prizes for your classroom and schools, so get your thinking hats on and read below for the competition details. The competition will close November 15th, and prizes announced on December 12th.

The prizes are still to be finalized, but rest assured, there will be a

cash prize to the individual or team who receives the top award(s) in each age category
As well as a set of “Light Matters” experiment kits for the classroom of the winning participants
